Run It Records – Bad Days 12″
1.Bad Days, 2 Bad Dub, 3 Wadada, 4. Wadadub
This is one of those releases where I really don’t have much to say as the music speaks for itself. This four track single from Geneva based Run It Records will hit the shops soon, and it is fair to say that it is a bit of a gem.
Bad Days is a nice lazy roots number, with vocals that remind me a little of Max Romeo or Ini Kamoze. I have always thought of Max and Ini as two of the best vocalists to come out of Jamaica, and a comparison with those two greats is praise indeed. On Bad Days lead vocalist Blood Lion has a similar slow, laconic style which conjures up images of hot dusty Jamaican towns and makeshift bars.
In fact all four tracks are good examples of singer led roots, the excellent musicianship contributes as well of course, but it’s good to hear the vocal upfront and driving the tracks.
Big respect to all involved in this single and the way they have captured the true essence of roots reggae. The potent mix of conscious lyrics, a great voice and serious rhythms make this a must buy record. Who knew Geneva in Switzerland was such a hotbed of Jamaican sounds!
Bad Days will be available early September from all good online retailers. Pick up a copy if you can, it will be a worthy addition to your collection. Snippets are available via the Soundcloud link below.
Please give this a share, let’s get this single flying off the shelves!
