Barry Brown - The Thompson Sound

Barry Brown – The Thompson Sound 1979 – 1982 – 7″ Box Set

This is a very nice little release for those of you with deeper pockets. It’s a seven 7″ single boxed set that was originally released as part of the 2015 Record Store Day. It looks like there are some stocks left over as it has started appearing on the general market. At time of writing Only Roots & Juno had it in stock.

The tracks cover the period in the late 70s and early 80s when Barry was working with producer Linval Thompson and backed by The Roots Radics Band. Two of the 7s are reissues of singles whilst the other material seems to be session tracks, the driving roots sound is quality stuff.

These tracks did feature on a CD release last year but who wants CD when you can pick up vinyl!

What do you think of Record Store Day, great promotion of Independent Record Stores and vinyl or a chance for major labels to peddle a load of crap releases? Let me know in the comments……
